14 Feb Getting a Job with Autism-Joanne Lara
In this episode of Autism Live, Joanne Lara joins the program to discuss Autism Works Now, an initiative which helps young adults with autism transition to adulthood and obtain work. In addition, Lara talks about the importance of skills training for children with autism, in order to build skills that will translate to work opportunities.
Part of the work that Autism Works Now engages in is teaching young adults job search and interview skills, so that they can meet the expectations of the employers up front. The other part of the work they do is encouraging companies to adopt effective sensitivity training so that employer scan support individuals on the spectrum once they get the job.
