What We Learned from this Video:

  • As a parent trying to deal with an autism diagnosis, learning which questions to ask and what sort of help you’re going to need is very important.
  • Ask family and friends for help with babysitting and respite. Other aid can be found in schools, churches or online.
  • People in your life want to help, but they do not know what they can do until you ask them.
  • Autism won’t necessarily stop you from doing things you want to do; you must figure out exactly how you are going to make them happen.
  • The more you go out and try different activities, the better your autistic child will be able to handle them.
  • It is important to be around people who will lift you up and support you, not complain and drag you down.
  • Be sure to treat yourself fairly, giving yourself credit and reminding yourself that you are doing a good job.
