In this video, sleep scientist Jared Minkel gives some tips on how to quiet your mind at bedtime and fall asleep quicker. One idea Minkel suggests is to distract your mind with interesting imagery, trying to think of pleasant scenes involving as many senses as possible. Sometimes pushing negative or anxious thoughts to the side can be difficult, so Minkel suggests playing out the entire scenario in your head. Think about what you are worried about, and then think of what your life will be like an hour, a day, a week after the event occurs. Another idea is to focus on a physical sensation at your present moment, such as the warm and soft blankets you are in.
